Number of programs throughout the country such as DPEP, SSA, NPEGEL have been implemented for the universalization of primary education. As a result, since the last decade there has been a significant improvement in the enrollment and retention of children at the primary level. However, despite sincere and dedicated efforts at various levels to improve the quality of education, there is a long way to go. When you think of regular elementary classes, the picture of teacher-centered classrooms that comes to mind is this:
Samuhkarya File |
- All children are supposed to learn the same thing at the same time and in the same way.
- Assessment methods are mostly summative and assess only children's
rote learning.
- TLMs are seldom used by children as normal practice.
- Most of the materials used are not prepared for self-study.
- There is no opportunity for the child to learn the lessons missed
during her absence from class.
- The teacher dominates the classroom all the time, without the children
learning to develop on their own.
- Problems of the multigrade and multilevel nature of the classroom are not addressed.
